January 2019 – I finally graduated college with a degree in Communication from Ottawa University 20 years later, it is finished. Finally, finished.
Well, I decided to do it. As of yesterday (officially) I began my Upper Elementary (4th-6th grade) training in Montessori Teacher Education. This is something I have wanted to do ever since I completed my Lower Elementary (1st-3rd grade) 2 years ago. Now with the opportunities available to me in Oregon I felt there was no reason to wait.
The duration of the program is 9 months, (as was the last program, and I completed it in 6 months). If you are intrigued by any of this and would like more information you can visit the North American Montessori Center and take a look for yourself. I really recommend this program because of the distance learning aspect. Otherwise I would have had to spend a lot of time away from home and across the country to complete these trainings. My first set of assignments are due on 18 June, but hopefully they will be completed before then since (hopefully) we will be out of AZ by then, we shall see.
We had an open house last night and there seemed to be some interest according to our realtor, so we will see what the next few days. I’ll keep updating.
Well, that started out well. I blogged for almost an entire week without fail, then life got crazy. In the last week things have been a rollercoaster. We had family in town fr the week and that did not leave a lot of time for blogging, last week was the week before Fall (Autumn!) Break and so there was a lot fo work to do.
I also applied, was accepted, and have begun classes through Ottawa University. I am back in college and this time there will be stopping until this dan degree is completed. As much as I do not want to do it, I am realising that there really is no choice in the matter and no matter how I look at the situation this is something that I MUST finish.
Here we go again!
I also need to get more work done on the Life of Saint John. Been a while since I have worked on that, maybe a it more today.
I was going to wait until my certificate came in the post, but now is as good as any to share the news that I passed my exams and I am now officially Montessori certified in Early Education Grades 1-3. It was a lot of work but has been a great achievement and I am loving every lesson I am giving. I shall post more later on.
A friend and coworker of mine sent me a random IM via Facebook the other day because she wanted to share with me something that she had found. It was a site called “Daring Greatly” and the specific page she linked to had the following image:
This image resonated with me and apparently today, in honor of “back to school” (apparently, this blog is “East Coast” because we started almost a month ago now..) the blogger was offering an 8×10 pdf of the above mentioned image. Well, I got a copy of it, and I am ging ot mail it to my boss and see if she wants to join me in laminating this print and adding it to my classroom, aswell as others.
I have completed 10 binders of Montessori coursework in the last 6 months. There are 4 more binders to go and then I shall be certified to teach in a Montessori classroom. After all of this is completed, I am not sure what I will do with myself!
From Montessori To Being My Own Boss
Cross-posted from Work
Well, I have officially left my position at Montessori Academy. There are a variety of reasons for the change, none of which I will go into in the public sphere of things, that is just not the remembrance I want to leave of one of my favourite jobs.
We all move on to newer and better things, and I am no exception to that. I have decided to make it on my own being my own boss and running my own business. I have been working for a few weeks now on revitalizing my old Web Design and Development company, Theophany Designs. I am working on websites and projects for Orthodox Christian missions, churches, organizations and individuals seeking a reliable, economical alternative to the larger companies out there that offer services for getting a webpage on the internet.
Take a look at the link for Theophany Designs and if you are in need or if you know of anyone else who is in need of web design or development work on a new or existing website, please let me know.
Well, the 2009-2010 school year is over. It was a really great year. Some of my kids are not coming back next year and I hope that they succeed greatly in their new ventures.
I have off now til Tuesday when I have a meeting with the teachers to find my fit for the next school year. We are opening 2 more Senior Elementary classes next year so there are technically 3 positions in Sr. Elem.
We got the new 4 acre campus in Paradise Valley, AZ, so there is a lot of packing and moving that needs to be done next week. Lots of work to do but it is totally worth it.
We moved into Scottsdale recently so we are still unpacking and putting things in order, but we love the new place. I start my last 2 Gen Ed classes on Monday. An Intro to Biology and Eng 106? After that I just have my Major Core and that should take me only a year and 2 summers. I can’t wait for this to be over.
I dunno I have had several experiences yesterday that seem to have been a continuation of the blog I posted.
At the end of the day yesterday I sat watching two of the ladies I work with work through a work called “The Snake Game.” In trying to work through this work with them it became even more apparent to me what I wanted to do.
I want to train in Montessori. I want to learn how to be better, more effective, and more of a help at my job. I try to do this in small ways whilst I am there each day, but it is hard to do when there are things I do not know how to do because it has been 25 years since I have been a part of a Montessori classroom. I really want to be more active in my classroom. I just need to figure our a way to do it.
I am at lunch and just thinking about life in general. With school, work, schoolwork and life in between, things are super hectic.
Life is crazy, finances are strangling us, but we are trying to live day by day in trust and faith. As hard as that is sometimes.
I am bored with college. This is attempt #5. Maybe college is not for me. What would I rather do? I would rather focus on the Church services and put my spiritual life back together. To me that is more important than AZ/US Government.. how do you assuage your soul is a world that is trying to destroy it?
Oh, lunch break is over. More later.
